Who We Are at Mahogany House

Founded in 2024, Mahogany House was created to serve the unaccompanied, at-risk homeless youth attending school and adged out foster children in our community.  Mahogany House is a 501(c)(3).  Our organization was started by Ruby Watson has a passion for these youth and young adults and she recognized the need for a safe and supportive environment for at-risk unaccompanied youth and aged-out foster children experiencing homelessness in our city.

At Mahogany House, we believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their circumstances. We are committed to being a welcoming and inclusive organization that serves at-risk unaccompanied youth attending school and aged-out foster children.  We also believe in  integrity, commitment, trust, diversity, competence, accountability, 

teamwork, confidentiality and work ethics. 

Mission

Mahogany House's mission is to provide at-risk, unaccompanied homeless students and aged-out foster children a safe transitional housing alternative, teach a multitude of skills to empower them to become self-sufficient, and assist with college prep, job training and vocational training desired by the participants.

The goal of the organization is to provide interim housing and skills training so that participants become empowered, independent individuals as well as productive members of society. Mahogany House's  services are unique in that at-risk unaccompanied homeless students and aged-out foster children have long-durations of its transitional housing, and comprehensive empowerment program.  Mahogany House  will make a significant impact on the Kansas City community, in both short-term relief, and long-term skill development and empowerment.
